So last night we went to see Terminator 3 at the cinema (5 word review: Clare Danes looked old, the plot was gloriously silly, the lead actor pretty awful, but it was nice to round off the first two I guess).
Well the normally static adverts that are displayed (interspersed with film trivia) had started moving. Yes, the cinema now has digital advertisiing. This could be done really nicely and acheive some interesting effects. The trivia questions actually highlighted the right answer after a time for instance, rather than having the answer 'hidden' away on the corner of a screen. And the Carlton advertising elephant swished his ears and moved his trunk with a very smooth and appreciable action. But the other advertisers were using the new technology for the sake of it - spinning, rippling, scrolling, and flashing text and images for no good reason other than they could. I look forward to seeing some more innovative or intersting uses of this, but really if you're interested in design, it's worth going to a UCI cinema (or anywhere else with this I guess) just to see some of the kind of things that IMHO you shouldn't do.

Google's new calculator functions will do all kinds of fancy conversions like telling you what 5 litres in uk fluid ounces is.

This is old news effectively, but just in case you missed it, some nutter sky-dived across the channel by jumping out of an aeroplane above dover (9000 ft up) and then gliding down with a pair of wings.
The wings bit sounds like a bit of a marketing gimmick to me but it's still quite an amazing feat.
addendum: Hm looking at the video on the news site I might retract what I said about the wings.... still....
